garôta de ipanema
the girl from ipanema.
Written in 1962 by Antonio Carlos Jobim; Vinicius DeMoraes; with additional English lyrics by Norman Gimbel.
The first version - the original great pairing - is by Stan Getz & João Gilberto, recorded live at the Carnegie Hall in October, 1964, featuring Astrud Gilberto on vocals.
The second cut is a collaboration between Sinatra and Jobim for their joint 1967 album, recorded sometime between January 30th and February 1st of the same year in down town Hollywood. Produced by Sonny Burke.

How can nobody comment on one of the world's finest compositions!
before the great vinyl sell off I must have had at least 20 or so versions of this song. One day I will go to Ipanema! (kids permitting)
Thank YOU for commenting, peewit ; it definitely has to be up there on a list of laid-back bossa favourites, especially this time of year!
Before you know it, your daughter or your son will be buying back all that vinyl you sold from a vendor near you!
Hope you make it to Ipanema, one of these days. Me, I've got my heart set on Havana.
Actually she is not even from Rio de Janeiro. And she is more German than Brazilian. Her name says it.
But thats ok :)
Its a nice song and a nice girl :D
Hey, bb ; I know that Astrud Gilberto's father was German, but she was born in Bahia and raised in Rio. Or are you referring to the model in the pic?
Actually, I credited the track to Getz & Jão Gilberto. The latter is very much Brazillian.
No ?
