Quite unbefittingly, this acoustic piece comes not from South Africa but far to the north-west in Mali, on the border with Senegal.
Like Baaba Maal, the mood is lazy and fatalistic.

I was wondering about this as I wrote the post. My original intention was to put some music more inkeeping with traditional tribal music from the south, but Any Major Dude made a far better job of it than I ever could, born out of his own unique perspective.
Conversely, I think the Franco European influence on West African music has been assimilated into something very beautiful and unique in its own right.
