Sadly, a fellow blogger alerted me to the news that Lux Interior bit the bullet yesterday in a hospital in Glendale, California as the result of an existing heart condition. Sorry, Ivy.

Great to hear the original - have you seen the vid of The Cramps live from the Napa Mental Hospital, truly terrifying - most clips are on youtube
I was actually shocked to see some pics of Lux from only a couple of years back elsewhere; he looked in genuinely bad shape.
I was always of the opinion that he would live to a truly ripe old age, despite a large body of empirical evidence to the contrary.
my husband saw them play live up in Montreal about 6 years ago... He said they look old, but still Lux was hanging from the rafters and writhing around. He said it still was amazing. I am jealous. I really wished I got to see them....
SA, The Cramps are (were) one of those rare bands which always seemed timeless to me, probably on account of those songs which formed the backbone to their repertoire as much as their style. I had lost touch with how time had actually caught up with them, which reflects on my own self-perception too, I imagine; they sort of existed in my warp factor like a picture of Dorian Gray. Or the spectre of Bryan Gregory.
Sad to see another pillar of the community crumble into salt.
I am shocked to hear the news about Lux! For a while, The Cramps were the ultimate cool garage band and I had countless times at various house parties dropping 'Bikini Girls With Machine Guns', 'Goo Goo Muck;, 'Route 66' ...
I always thought of him as an icon.
An original, yes. I'm kind of stunned too.
